  8. The following list contains a brief description of the various forums
  9. presently available through the Smartnet network.  Not all nodes, (BBS
  10. systems), of the network have chosen to select all the available forums for
  11. their local boards.  Check with the individual nodes of the network as to what
  12. they are carrying.  Contact the sysop of the node as to their availability of
  13. taking on a particular forum.  As the network continues to grow, there will be
  14. a SMARTNET network node near you!
  15.  
  16. For a complete listing of the current nodes of Smartnet, call the SOM Premium
  17. Information Network, the International HUB  of Smartnet at (516) 536-8723.

  19. Please understand that the reference numbers used here only match those at
  20. SOM.  These numbers are only used as a reference and will NOT match those
  21. found on your local Smartnet BBS.

  24.                                  Message  Base

  27.   0. Main Board   - Each individual node or system of the network supports
  28.                     their own main board.  The main board of the network
  29.                     serves as a local meeting place for local callers to the
  30.                     bbs.  Main Boards of individual Smartnet systems are not
  31.                     shared in the network.
  32.  
  33.   1. Sysop's      - Supports a thread regarding Bulletin Board Software.
  34.                     Topics of conversation include all facets of the Sysop's
  35.                     world in operating a bulletin  board from PCBoard software
  36.                     to file transfer problems.
  37.  
  38.   2. Games        - Everyone likes to take a break now and then on their CRT.
  39.                     Games discussions include both online through-a-door games
  40.                     available on member boards of the network as well as
  41.                     assistance of the commercially available games.  Games
  42.                     released to the bulletin boards are also discussed and the
  43.                     discussions are also readily available in the forum.

  45.   3. Music        - Another general interest forum that specializes in all
  46.                     topics of music, from a full discussion of computer music
  47.                     to the  latest rock and roll and classical pieces.  MIDI
  48.                     and ad- lib card discussions are continued directly in the
  49.                     MIDI Conference.

  51.   4. Video-VGA    - VGA  & VIDEO Conference is dedicated to all discussions of
  52.                     CRT  display.  Discussions within this forum include .GIF,
  53.                     .MAC and other graphic display programs, the ANSI driver,
  54.                     as well as the current state of the art displays; VGA,
  55.                     EGA, CGA and MCA.  Graphical drawing software is also
  56.                     discussed within this conference in addition to the
  57.                     Presentation Software Conference.  Other Video related
  58.                     conferences include: DTP, CAD and Presentations.

  60.   5. Invest       - A complete discussion of finances and investments, this
  61.                     forum has a broad range of topics that span financial
  62.                     programming to investment information.  You'll find some
  63.                     interesting discussions on financial assistance.

  65.   6. DESQview     - PRODUCT SUPPORT -  hosted by Eric Weiling of Quarterdeck
  66.                     Office Systems, Inc., this conference openly discusses the
  67.                     DESQview program and the new API programming interface to
  68.                     DESQview.  Other multi-tasking software is discussed
  69.                     within  this conference.

  81.                     Hayes.

  168.                     processing products.

  170.  27. OS/2         - The subject matter of the conference is all versions of
  171.                     OS/2 including OS/2 V1.x and the most recent OS/2 V2.x
  172.                     version.  David Matocha, is the conference host of this
  173.                     forum and has many hands on experiences.

  175.  28. PC-MFrame    - PC to Mainframe communications. A topic that has long been
  176.                     neglected in the BBS world and one that is equally
  177.                     important. The conference is hosted by Bob Moskowitz, who
  178.                     is well versed in main frame to PC communications. A high
  179.                     end technology conference for those involved with IRMA
  180.                     boards and other communication devices with main frames,
  181.                     midis, VAX and major computing needs.

  198.                     regarding the IBM PC computer. This conference is from
  199.                     soup to nuts full of data from hardware and software, and
  200.                     the location to find the latest product releases from IBM.

  203.                     and is supported by the various members of the Smartnet
  204.                     Network. In addition to spreadsheets, Lotus Magellan,
  205.                     Freelance and other products are discussed.

  208.                     to all those .BAT files that you try to write and just
  209.                     don't operate as they should. Support batch file programs
  210.                     are equally discussed within this conference.
